We came in towards the end of a major project for Gainsborough Old Hall, and were asked to insert some family-friendly elements to an existing interpretation scheme. We created colour-coded activity stations in four key rooms, supported with further graphics linking existing kid-friendly features into a trail.

Activity chests introduce puzzles, spotter cards and role play into two of the large hall rooms, including an activity using dress up and a gilded picture frame to encouraging visitors to re-create historic portraits. A huge floor mat board game brings the large, empty stewards room to life. The centrepiece is the magnificent tudor kitchen, where we added five activity stations. Kids can dress a plate, bake some pies, chop some veg, stir a pot - even turn the spit to ‘roast’ a magnificent carved wooden pig. If they choose, groups can up the ante having a chief cook orchestrate proceedings using a challenge setter based on our ROLL interactive tool.
